Bio
Based in Egypt, Nada Baraka (1990- ) is a visual artist with a bachelor in Visual Art from the American University in Cairo and an MA from Central Saint Martins in London. Baraka held several solo shows in Cairo and exhibited in numerous group shows in Egypt and internationally. In 2023 Baraka received the Anna Award from Latitudes Online, and initiated the group project 'Valley of Walls' which got selected to become an Apex Art exhibition. Baraka recently participated in a dual show at Tabari Artspace Dubai, 2025.
Nada Baraka’s work maintains a state of flux, swaying between abstract and surreal in her paintings and installations.
The core of her work is a process that seeks to narrate an experience through expressionist and surrealist methodology. Visceral forms are given ever changing contexts as a means to challenge and deconstruct the obvious and tease meaning out of absurdity.
Currently, her ideas surround the diverse and extensive personal archive of her late grandfather, former Minister of Irrigation in Egypt. In this line of work she is concerned with more site specific presentations, as she considers context more deeply and explores decontextualizing archival material and spaces that are very particular. Connecting past with present, reflecting on social environments of then and now, and the fine lines between private and public material are some of the underlying themes she is unboxing.
