Queezy (b. 1992, Cape Town) is a multidisciplinary artist bridging the intersections of fine art, fashion, and performance. From printmaking and videography to drag performances and DJ sets, QUEEZY creates immersive worlds, where fantasy meets the radical subversion of the status quo. At once theatrical and personal, Queezy's works upend and expand what it means to be queer and coloured in South Africa, subverting constructions of masculinity, sexuality, and corporeality. Salient themes of gendered norms and identity politics are met with craftsmanship and authenticity, generating artworks which are as aesthetically engaging as they are socially engaged. Ultimately, Queezy aims to create interactive experiences where normativity gives way to spaces for protest, empowerment, and celebration.
Having attended Cape Peninsula University of Technology, where they were awarded a B-Tech in Fashion Design with a distinction in specialized clothing technology, Queezy has created performances for Gallery MOMO, Zeitz Mocaa, AVA Gallery, World Art Gallery, and Norval Foundation. Their work has been featured by I-D Magazine, New York Times, NATAAL, Paper magazine, Vogue Italia among other publications. Queezy has performed with artists such as M.I.A, Slowthai, Angel Ho and many more, which Queezy is inspired by.
In addition to their art practice, Queezy has been involved in various social outreach programmes, including fashion, art, and music based creative workshop which mentors and encourages children to pursue involvement in creative industries, which Heneke co-founded in 2017. Queezy has collaborated with artist Jody Brand for a project with Fondation, Louis Vuittion: Art/ Afrique, le nouvel atelier. More recently, Queezy has performed at their first BOILERROOM set in Johannesburg hosted by Ballantines True Music, played with a combination of Afro beats to sassy house.
Queezy's print titled; 'Thandi' has been acquired by the UCT collection.
