Kelechi Nwaneri's second solo exhibition with the gallery titled ‘Soliloquy’, opens on Tuesday 13 February at 12h00 and runs until 9 Marc 2024.
Nwaneri is a self-taught mixed media artist from Nigeria who uses West African iconography to represent contemporary Lagos State. Bringing mystical, metaphysical and allegorical concepts in conversation with the Black Hybrid Figure, Nwaneri’s work is both surreal and based on his lived experience.

In his own words:

“A distinctive thread that weaves through my creations is the 'Hybrid (Black) Figure,' a concept rooted in the symbolism of scars and tribal marks. These figures bear a tapestry of symbols, prominently featuring Adinkra, Uli, and Nsibidi symbols, automatic lines, and Adire patterns. I primarily wield pencils and charcoal sticks to breathe life into these intricate depictions."
This exhibition presents a collection of large-scale paintings exploring the notion of tattooing and scarification in contemporary culture."
