EBONY/CURATED is pleased to share the upcoming solo/dual exhibition for John Newdigate and Ian Garrett at Galerie Lefebvre et Fils, opening on June 4th 2026, in Paris France.
The exhibition follows their residency with Galerie Lefebvre et Fils’ program, ‘The Residency’. The collaboration between South African ceramic artists Ian Garrett and John Newdigate is considered one of the most distinctive partnerships in contemporary ceramics. Their work combines sculptural form and painted narrative.
Ian Garrett creates the hand-built ceramic vessels, known for their elegant, architectural balance and refined shapes. John Newdigate then transforms these surfaces through intricate painted imagery, layering underglazes and symbolic motifs inspired by nature, birds, insects and environmental themes.
Their collaboration succeeds because each artist contributes a different strength: Garrett provides the form, while Newdigate brings storytelling and colour. Together, they create works where the final piece becomes more powerful than either practice alone.
Over time, their artistic dialogue evolved naturally, resulting in ceramics that merge minimal structure with richly detailed visual narratives, beautifully balanced by hybrid vessels that appear both timeless and strikingly contemporary . Their collaborative works have gained significant recognition in exhibitions, highlighting the growing international appreciation for contemporary South African ceramics.
Finally, we would like to express our congratulations to Galerie Lefebvre et Fils and their team for another successful residency program and the upcoming exhibition.
‘Hypnogogia’ will run from Thursday 4 June to 24 July 2026 at Galerie Lefebvre et Fils in Paris, France.
