Vogue US Features Kamohelo Blessing Rooi

We are honoured to share US Vogue’s moving tribute to the late Koyo Kouoh, written by Alexander-Julian Gibbson. Captured during the 2025 Investec Cape Town Art Fair, the editorial honours Kouoh’s steadfast commitment to African art, offering glimpses of her in action, surrounded by the very artists whose voices and careers she championed.

Among them are Zizipho Poswa, Ayotunde Ojo, Berni Searle, Francesco Mbele, Igshaan Adams, Elise Wessels, Imraan Christian, Boemo Diale, and our very own Kamohelo Blessing Rooi, whose sold-out debut at the fair marked a powerful moment in his artistic journey.

'The world-building of Kamohelo Blessing Rooi is just as reverent. Though newly arrived to the practice of painting, Rooi carries with him a clarity of purpose, each of his figures encased in a universe of vivid patterns and purposeful silhouettes. “Fashion is the armor we wear to face the world,” he tells me. “In these spaces, I envision my work as a mirror"', writes Gibbson about the Johannesburg-based artist.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Alexander-Julian Gibbson, Vogue Magazine, and the brilliant creative team behind this tribute.
